2013 Results are up!

The good news:  Results are up!  14 year old Miranda Thompson won the 5K race in a time of 19:22, besting the previous woman's course record of 22:26 set in 2012 by Tiffany Szymanski.  13 year old Nicholas Bannon was the top male in a time of 19:49.  Congratulations to Miranda, Nicholas and all who participated in the 2013 Creemore Copper Kettle Dash 5K!

Unfortunately, the 10K did not proceed as smoothly as the 5K.  A mis-allotment of volunteers resulted in 2 marshals at the Collingwood Street / Caroline Street intersection and none at the Collingwood Street / 6/7 Sideroad intersection.  A key intersection with a missing marshal meant that many of the top runners went straight up Collingwood Street, instead of turning right onto 6/7 Sideroad.  Mistakes happen at races from time to time and there are many options on what corrective action should be taken.  For the 10K fiasco, the following was adopted:

1.  No impact to the runners that ran the 10K course.
2.  Direct the "12.8K" runners along a new course, so they would not have to complete the 10K course by running 6/7 Sideroad and Caroline Street.  Doing so would have required that they complete about 16K, a distance most were not prepared to race.
3.  Provide the "12.8K" runners with prizes (this action is pending).

The above will by no means satisfy everyone, but with such a major issue in a race, I feel it was the correct course of action.  As runners mentioned, it was a great day for a run, all profit goes to YMCA Strong Kids campaign and no one got hurt.

Happy feet!

Ready, Set, Go!

Hi all.

Hope your training is progressing smoothly and you are enjoying getting out for runs! At this point I would like to bring you up to speed (sorry) with some exciting news.

Creemore Springs Brewery is a sponsor again this year.  Those who ran last year might recall the cool prizes donated by the brewery.  As well, this year we have some great door prizes, including a 3 month membership to the Barrie YMCA and an awesome prize from Barrie Mountain Equipment Co-op, who will also be setting up a booth at the arena during the race. We are actively seeking other sponsors.

Running Free's website is linked to our blog and they are offering a store coupon if you sign up for the Copper Kettle Dash through their website. They will also be providing tech T-shirts for all runners!

Same as last year, all finishers will receive a hand crafted ceramic medal, age category winners will receive pottery and there will also be pottery door prizes.

The race is again supporting the YMCA Strong Kids campaign.  Those wishing to fund raise for this much needed charity can find out more at YMCA Simcoe County's website. Pottery gifts will be handed out to those who achieve specific fund-raising targets.

Stayner Tim Hortons will again be on hand for those who enjoy a cupa after the race.  See you in the line!

Calling All Runners!

I hope you are all managing to lace up your running shoes and get out this winter!

Perhaps this is a good time to inspire you with thoughts of summer running in Creemore. With this in mind, I am very excited to share with you some changes and improvements for the sophomore running of the Creemore Copper Kettle Dash.

This year the race will take place beginning at 8:00 am on Saturday, August 24, 2013, with the route remaining the same. Those who ran the 10K last year will tell you that a little hill training in the days leading up to the race would be helpful and fun! The event will continue to host a 5K run or walk option and a 10K run.

I am very excited to announce that this year we will be giving out technical T-shirts, made from excellent wicking material. The T-shirts will be available in men and women specific sizing.

I will also be linking my blog to the "Running Free" website and will again be linked to YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign. Anyone who would like to fundraise for this much needed charity can find out more on YMCA Simcoe County's website.  Pottery gifts will be handed out when specific fundraising targets are reached.

I am looking forward to a very exciting and fun event! Can you break last years 10K record of 37:32 which is held by Nikolay Ryabkov?  I would need a 15 minute head start!
